So I went to Washington, DC on Sunday (May 3, 2009).  The trip was uneventful.  We stayed at a hotel called The Churchill in one of their Premier King rooms.  It had a huge bed and a massive bathroom! :)  My only complaint is they wanted $10/per day for wireless access.  Sorry, I don't pay that much for internet access at home so I'm sure as hell not going to pay that much while I travel!

I won't be able to talk about my meetings or the people I met with.  They are my customers and my partners in my work.  One of these days, I hope to be able to talk about them.  They're good people and they really believe in what we do to help the general public.

Anyway, moving on.  If you visit DC, take a good pair of walking shoes!  Unless you plan on taking a cab everywhere or renting a car, it's going to be your main mode of transportation.  I'll tell you now, though: DC drivers are insane!

So, on our first night we went to the Bistro Du Coin and had the best steak ever, Le Steak Maison!  After that, I went back to the hotel and passed out.

Next morning, we began our meetings and discussed our work.  The Assistant Secretary for the branch of government we work on behalf of opened our gathering.  That night, we went to Benihana with several of our partners in the work.  A good time was had by all.  I had a onion soup that was to die for.  The Benihana folks were extremely nice and were very careful to make sure no mushrooms were placed in or near my food.  (I'm allergic).

The next day was more meetings, although these were centered on upcoming regulation and policy changes.  We broke at noon to go touring.  I went and saw the Capitol Visitor's Center and my all time favorite place: The Supreme Court of the United States.  As I sat in the audience chamber, listening to the docent describe the SCOTUS, I dreamed of presenting a case in there one day.  It is beautiful and awe inspiring.  At the end of the day, we went to a really cool place called Lucky Strike Lanes.  I didn't bowl, but I did get to hang out with people I respect very deeply.  I also had some of the best Coconut Shrimp! :)

Last day of the trip was spent on practice tips in our research and case work.  A couple of government and non-profit agencies came by and sat in, as they're curious about our work and how we can help each other.  We ended for the day, said our good byes and hugged each other.  Taking a cab to the airport was an adventure, as our two cab drivers decided they didn't like each other.  They got in a race to the airport, which our cab lost.  Bah!

Entering Regan Airport, we were making our way to the gates when I saw Ted Danson getting a shoe shine!  He was having a private moment, so I didn't go all fanboi on him.  I wanted to, tho! :)

Coming through the gate, I had a moron moment.  I couldn't remember to take stuff out of my pockets to save my life.  However, this needs to be said.  The TSA folks at Reagan airport were the nicest, most considerate and patient people I have EVER had the pleasure of meeting.  I need to send them a thank you card for putting up with me having a senior moment!

All in all, a good trip and I had fun.  I returned home at 11:32pm that night and crashed.  My legs are still killing me from all the walking, but I'm looking forward to sleeping in this weekend. :)

I'm back from meeting my friends in the federal government.  Washington, DC is... interesting.  I'll post more when I have a chance.

Who wouldn't like a Skyshatter Cover? UPDATE: Bah, didn't work. My only guess is because I did it wrong or I need a paid account.

My new Dreamwidth account is active, I'm pleased to say! Many thanks to my brother from another mother,[personal profile] twfarlan, for the hook up!

I don't have invite codes as of yet.  Once I get some, I'm going to save back one for my wife and distribute the rest.  So, stay tuned!

In other news, I have a roaring upper respiratory infection (boo!).
